A DAY TOUR IN MÄNTTÄ-VILPPULA AREA 2010
At 11:30 Lunch at Peltola Organic Farm. Starters salad and salted fish, main course steak, warm vegetable dish, smoked fish or meatballs; bread, drinks, dessert and coffee in a buffet. - Matti, the farmer himself, will tell stories about life on an organic farm during lunch.
At 1 pm Serlachius Museum Gösta
In the museum the guides will show us the national art treasures from the golden era, as well as old European art dating back as far as the 1400s. One of the most significant private collections in the Nordic countries consists of the works of Albert Edelfelt, Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Hugo Simberg, Helene Schjerfbeck and Emil Wikström, among others.
At 2:15 pm Mänttä church
G.A.Serlachius donated the church, located right next to the Serlachius - museum Gustaf. The guided tour takes us to the church that was completed in 1928.
At 3 pm Name day coffee of Miss Sissi
We will enjoy our after-church coffee in the true 1800s style at the Serlachius Museum Gustaf, with the paper master´s lovely daughter, Miss Sissi. She will celebrate her name day in 1894 with us.
The impressive museum building was completed in 1934 to serve as the head office for the forest company G.A. Serlachius Oy.
At 3:45 pm Shopping at Myllyranta Decor Centre
We will still have time for shopping in the former mill and engine shed of the Serlachius company. Myllyranta Decor Centre is filled with art, as well as Middle and South European design.

known as the "White House", in Mänttä

A coffee break at Café Sissi: Café Sissi is
named after the younger daughter of G.A. Serlachius, the founder of the
Mänttä paper mill, a pioneer of the Finnish paper industry and a well-known
patron of arts.

A film screening: The Film gives the visitors
an insight into the history of Finnish paper industry.
|
|
|
A visit to the Exhibition "Veterans" (until 12.2010): The exhibition illustrates the wartime experiences as they were
lived by the veterans. The visitor gets an idea of what it was like to live
during that time in Finland.

A guided tour of the Church of Mänttä:
The Church was built in 1928, owing to the generous donation by G.A.
Serlachius to the congregation. It is located next to the "White House".

Lunch at cafe-restaurant "Autereen Tupa": The
cafe-restaurant is located in a historical building next to the Joenniemi
Manor. It is named after the famous Finnish sculptor Hannes Autere and simply
means Autere´s House.

The restaurant offers an extensive buffet
table with cold starters, a choice of several main courses, fish and
vegetables, several side dishes, dessert and coffee.

A guided tour of the Gösta Serlachius Museum
of Fine Arts: The Museum presents a unique collection of classics of Finnish
art and old European paintings dating back to the 15th century. The museum
has one of the most important collections in private ownership in the Nordic
countries. Here you can see the works of Albert Edelfelt, Akseli
Gallen-Kallela, Hugo Simberg, Helene Schjerfbeck, and Emil Wikström.
